The Jesse Owen Royal Marine – Memorial

The Veterans Contact Point working with The Royal Marines Association are planning for a Commando  Memorial to be placed in Riverslea Park, Nuneaton in memory of the late Jesse Owen Royal Marine in recognition of his commitment to support his fellow veterans across Coventry & North Warwickshire. The memorial will also remember and recognise the commitment made by our Commando Forces from across the Coventry & Warwickshire Area in conflict and in peace since the end of WW2.

Work has began on the Memorial with a stone monolith provided by our local quarry which will be delivered shortly to the VCP, where it will be worked on before involving a local stone mason who will prepare the stone ready for the dedication plaque. The VCP has been in consultation with John Franks from the local branch of The Royal Marines Association to decide on the dedication which will include a none-religious dedication to all of our Commando Forces. Mayor General Rob Magowan and the Serving Royal Marines to enlist their support to the memorial and hopefully a uniformed presence on the day.

Outline planning is in process with all involved, through Barry Longden at NBBC, and we are optimistically looking at a date of Sunday 17th December 2017 for the unveiling/dedication. We envisage a small parade from NBBC Council Offices to Riverslea Park, involving the serving RM Forces, RM Association and others. Followed by a short dedication service and reception. We feel that Jesse Owen and our fellow Commando Forces are deserving of this recognition, locally and we feel confident that the people of Coventry & North Warwickshire will show their support
